2019 Ram 1500 vs 2019 Chevrolet Silverado near Mankato, MN

When it comes to the full-size pickup truck segment, the options are endless. This is an extremely competitive part of the automotive world, and if you’re dipping your toes in, it can be hard to figure out which truck is actually the best. We’re here to compare two of the top models and help you answer that question. The two trucks we’ll be looking at are the 2019 Ram 1500 and the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado. The Ram 1500 was fully redesigned for 2019, and it now includes a mild hybrid power system, additional rear-seat space, and a reduction in weight. The Silverado has also been redesigned, and it features a longer cabin, a new touchscreen display, and a few available powertrain options. To find out which truck comes out on top, continue reading down below.

2019 Ram 1500 Power & Handling

Ram trucks have always been known for their reliability and their power, which is why the two available engines for the 2019 model shouldn’t be a surprise. The standard engine is a 3.6-liter V6, which produces around 269 lb-ft of torque and up to 305 horsepower. Standard with this V6 is the mild hybrid power system, which improves fuel efficiency. The available engine is the legendary 5.7-liter V8, which can get you 395 horsepower and 410 lb-ft of torque. No matter the engine you’ll get an 8-speed automatic transmission and the option to choose between either a two-wheel or a four-wheel drive configuration.

2019 Chevrolet Silverado Power & Handling

Chevrolet tries to combat the Ram 1500 and its two engine options by offering quite a few engine and transmission combinations. We can’t say we’re big fans of this strategy. The standard engine in the 2019 Silverado is a 4.3-liter V6, which comes connected to a six-speed automatic transmission. When you move up for another option, you’ll find an eight-speed automatic transmission that is paired with a turbocharged 2.7-liter inline-4 engine. The next engine, a 5.3-liter V8, comes with either a six-speed or an eight-speed automatic transmission. Finally, the highest available engine is a 6.2-liter V8, which works with a ten-speed automatic transmission. There is no mild hybrid system to help with fuel efficiency, and this many engine options seems like overkill.

2019 Ram 1500 Features & Design

Trim level options are not a problem with the Ram 1500. This pickup truck is available with 7 choices, which means you’ll most definitely find the right match. Some of the standard features with this truck include a Class III hitch receiver, a five-inch touchscreen, vinyl upholstery and flooring, dual USB inputs, air conditioning, push-button ignition, a locking tailgate, 18-inch steel wheels, heated side mirrors, a rearview camera, Bluetooth, cruise control, and rear-seat USB charge ports. Higher trims, like Laramie and Longhorm, offer features like keyless entry, leather upholstery, automatic wipers, a navigation system, front and rear parking sensors, heated and ventilated reclining rear seats, chrome side steps, front bucket seats, a leather-wrapped wood steering wheel, and a heated steering wheel.

2019 Chevrolet Silverado Features & Design

Eight trims are offered with the Silverado. The biggest hurdle for this truck is the pretty weak and bare-bones base trim. The standard features include Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, 17-inch steel wheels, a USB port, a tilt-only steering column, Bluetooth, a six-speaker audio system, air conditioning, and a 7-inch touchscreen interface. Another trim, LT, adds an upgraded driver information display, LED headlights, a steering wheel with audio controls, an 8-inch touchscreen, a tailgate damper, Wi-Fi, and alloy wheels. One of the highest models, LTZ, adds a heated tilt/telescoping steering wheel, leather upholstery, power-folding and auto-dimming mirrors, dual-zone automatic climate control, heated and power-adjustable front seats, and a navigation system.
